The Alton Cheltenham Wooden Greenhouse is a traditional, premium cedar greenhouse designed to combine classic garden aesthetics with practical growing performance. Its distinctive half-boarded Western Red Cedar construction, tall proportions, and steep 45° roof pitch give it a timeless appearance while creating a bright, open growing environment.
The greenhouse features Grade A, knot-free Western Red Cedar, selected for its natural durability, insulation properties, and resistance to moisture and rot. The natural variation in cedar means individual boards may differ slightly in tone and grain, gradually developing a characteristic silvery-grey appearance as the wood weathers.
A substantial aluminum base frame raises the cedar structure above ground level, helping reduce exposure to ground moisture. Precision joinery helps maintain a rigid, square, and accurately aligned structure over time, while aluminum capping and rubber seals protect important glazing points from weather exposure.
The 3mm tempered safety glass provides clear natural light throughout the growing area. The steep roof also provides additional internal height, with a 10-foot peak, making the greenhouse particularly suitable for taller plants, hanging baskets, climbing crops, and larger growing arrangements.
Ventilation is designed to operate without electricity. Roof vents with automatic wax openers respond to rising temperatures, while louver windows provide additional airflow and circulation. A lockable hinged door provides secure and convenient access, and the low threshold makes it easier to move pots, trays, tools, and other gardening equipment in and out.
The Alton Cheltenham greenhouse kit includes the principal structural, glazing, ventilation, access, and finishin components required to create the complete greenhouse structure.

Assembly typically takes 2–3 days with a crew of 2–3 people — this isn't a same-afternoon build, largely due to the glass glazing work and the size of the larger models. Buyers should plan the timeline and labor accordingly, especially if they're coordinating with a foundation contractor beforehand.

Planning Ahead
The Cambridge T-Shaped Cedar Greenhouse features cedar, glass panels, and a porch entry. Prepare the site, foundation, and water access for installation.
The Alton Cheltenham should be installed on a flat, level, and stable foundation that can properly support the integrated aluminum base frame and the greenhouse structure above it. A solid, accurately prepared base helps keep the cedar framing square and aligned, while providing consistent support for the tempered glass, door, vents, and other components throughout the life of the greenhouse. Because the aluminum base raises the cedar above ground level, the foundation should provide a firm, continuous surface beneath the base and help prevent movement caused by settling or uneven ground. Taking the time to establish a properly level foundation before assembly is essential, as an uneven base can lead to alignment problems with the frame, door, glazing, and ventilation components later on.
Once the foundation is ready, the greenhouse needs to be anchored securely to it. Use the manufacturer-recommended hardware for your region's wind and snow load — anchoring requirements aren't one-size-fits-all, and what holds a structure firmly in a low-wind, low-snow region may not be adequate somewhere with heavier seasonal loads. Matching your anchoring hardware to local conditions is part of making sure the greenhouse stays put and performs as expected through the seasons it's actually going to face.
If you're planning to run water or electricity to the greenhouse — for irrigation, misting, heating, lighting, or anything else — those utility runs need to be planned before your site work is finished, not after. Coordinate with your electrician and plumber early so water and power lines can be brought to the greenhouse footprint as part of the same site preparation, rather than trenching or rerouting once the structure is already in place.
Whether you're a confident DIYer or you'd rather bring in a professional, there's a path for either approach. For those installing it themselves, the groundwork above (foundation, anchoring, utilities) is the core of what to plan for. For those who'd prefer help, support is available to connect you with vetted installers so the greenhouse goes up correctly the first time.
We can help you think through foundation, utilities, delivery access, and installer support before your greenhouse ships.
Delivery
Before delivery, you'll receive tracking details and guidance so you know what's coming, where to place it, and how to store the parts before assembly.
Your greenhouse ships by LTL freight and is delivered curbside. Greenhouses typically arrive in about 8 to 13 business days, including packing and transit time.
The Cambridge includes cedar frame sections, toughened glass panels, aluminum capping, and long components, so plan enough space for drop-off and temporary storage.
The driver will unload the freight shipment curbside. Have help available to move long cartons, glass panels, frame sections, and cupola components after delivery.
Store all greenhouse components in a garage or covered dry area until assembly. Keeping everything protected helps prevent packaging, frame, and glass issues before install.
